MAST provides a modeling system for manufacturing cells, systems, and lines. It is perfectly suited for flexible manufacturing operations where multiple part numbers are processed on the same machines (cell), multiple operators process the same part (Uline), or robotic or vehicle handling is integrated with machines (Robot or FMS System). MAST uses process data (forecast demand and cycle times) and a layout to determine capacity, work in process (WIP) inventory, number of pallets/fixtures, labor and machine utilization, flow time, and cost per piece for return on investment (ROI) project justification.

Flow Route matrix contains process steps as columns and rows for each part with cycle time in each cell. Part Detail data contains forecast demand, fixture type and batch size. Workcenter Detail has number of machines, assigned labor team, and grouping Capacity Model uses planning horizon, Flow Route, Part, and Workcenter detail to determine capacity (maximum and target production rate, target machine and labor use, and inventory (P= I / F) Layout constructed by dropping each station (machine, load, robot) into a grid, add track sections (walk way, guided vehicle, robot), and connections. Discrete event Simulation model uses the Flow Route, Part, Workcenter details, and Layout to determine the integration effects (net production) while operating. Control logic algorithms are imbedded in with the components and configuration of process steps, workcenters, and layout components. Randomness is modeled using Station Reliability and Operator Available patterns. Production Rate, Machine Use, Vehicle Use, Inventory Use, and Operator Use all have planned vs. actual outputs. Simulated operation is played back via animated part, vehicle, and operator movements using the layout. Graphs show production completed, machine use, labor use, and vehicle use over the simulate time period. Gantt Charts show detailed material tracking of each part as it is processed through the simulaton. Annual cost of machines, hourly labor cost, overhead cost, and other costs are allocated to establish a cost per piece. All tables can be copied to spreadsheet software. Data table import is available for large number of parts.
